Activity #2: “Uniqueness – A Class Of Glasses”
Students learn how it feels to be unique on the outside, as they all create and then wear a pair of fun glasses for the day.
Materials:
- 9” x 12” stiff card stock in a variety of colours
- Glasses template (provided)
- Pipe cleaners
- Scissors
- Metal fasteners or swivels (2 per student)
- Stapler
Teacher Preparation:
- Print enough ‘Glasses’ templates for each student
Step by Step:
Step One: Students use the template to create their glasses out of the stiff card stock. Cut out the glasses and arms of their glasses
Step Two: Attach with a metal fastener or swivel on each side.
Step Three: Staple a pipe cleaner on the inside of each arm of the glasses if extra reinforcement required.
Step Four: Have students wear their glasses for the day.
End Product:
Students have created their own pair of glasses to wear for the day. They take that opportunity to see what it is like for students who may be unique and have to wear glasses. They learn it doesn’t take too much courage to be different – especially when differences are celebrated.
