Activity #6: “Signs of Good Citizenship”
This activity discusses the ‘peace’ sign and how its meaning contributes to being a good citizen.
Materials:
- 9” x 12” manila tag board
- Stop Sign Peace Symbol (template provided)
- Paints and felt pens
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Glue
Teacher Preparation:
- Print (and enlarge, if desired) enough Stop Sign templates on tag board for each student.
Step by Step:
Step One: Brainstorm with students ways that they can display good citizenship. Brainstorm words or phrases that depict good citizenship.
Step Two: Draw the peace symbol on the board and ask the students if they know what it means. Remind students that they can use their fingers to show the peace symbol.
Step Three: On their Stop Sign shapes, have students write, draw and colour things that would depict being a good citizen.
End Product:
An array of Stop Sign Peace Symbols that students have added words, phrases and drawings to that depict ideas of how to be a good citizen. Display Stop Sign Peace Symbols on the bulletin board with captions such as “Peace Rules”.
