What is Perseverance?

What is Perseverance?

Grade One Curriculum

“Fall down seven times, get up eight times.”

– Japanese proverb

Perseverance is the key to getting things done and developing good habits. It means having a worthwhile goal and staying focused on it. It means continuing to work at something and never giving up, no matter how hard it gets. People with perseverance finish what they start and are not afraid to make mistakes along the way. They face challenges with a positive attitude and look for creative ways to overcome these challenges. We want our students to develop a ‘never-give-up’ attitude.

YOU SHOW PERSEVERANCE WHEN YOU:

  • Finish your work in class even though you may find it difficult
  • Don’t quit – if you don’t succeed at first, keep trying rather than giving up
  • Say, “I can do that”
  • Ask for help when you are stuck
  • Motivate yourself to keep trying
  • Are not afraid to fail or make a mistake
  • Strive for excellence
  • Set high goals for yourself.
